Choose from enjoying the view on the frozen lake, in the open in the frozen tundra, or from the comfort of a Teepee Village and watch as the vivid display of Aurora dances across the northern sky.

    During daytime when you are not chasing the lights, there are an abundance of free time for you to explore the rich history of Yellowknife, sampling the local foods, or select to do more activities in this unique wonderland.

    Welcome Package

    1. Day 1 Arrive in Yellowknife - Aurora Viewing

      Arrive at Yellowknife Airport. Meet your transfer guide near the baggage carousel, and the shuttle bus will transfer you to your hotel; after check-in, the winter clothing (3-night rental) will be in your room ready to be used immediately; Should your flight arrive early, you can choose to relax at the hotel or explore downtown of Yellowknife.

      Later in the evening (please verify with the front desk to confirm Aurora shuttle pickup time), our tour guide will be waiting for you at the lobby. Following a brief orientation, we will embark on this evening’s journey to the Aurora Village where you can explore around this unique and spacious property to find your perfect aurora viewing location and using the Teepee as a base.

      The Village is sheltered from the subarctic wind by a beautiful forest – with groomed trails leading up to surrounding panorama hills for remote and straightforward viewing of the stunning display from mother nature. You will be wowed by the Aurora Borealis dancing overhead and have everything you need to enjoy the experience….

      After midnight, you will be transferred back to your hotel, and that would conclude your aurora viewing for first night.

    2. Day 2 Yellowknife - Aurora Viewing

      Morning as leisure, have a good sleep-in at the hotel.

      In the afternoon, join a 2-hour Yellowknife City Tour to discover more about this beautiful northern town; learn about the history of Yellowknife from its humble beginnings and evolved into its “streets paved with gold”, and how the Aboriginal culture is deeply rooted in this community. The Tour also features stops at the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories, the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, and a drive through downtown and Old Town Yellowknife.

      In Winter, we will drive onto the Great Slave Lake on the famous Ice Road, and get off the bus to see the ‘ice’ if it is safe to do so. (It is normally safe to drive on the ice by early December.) In summer, we climb the Pilot’s Monument in old own. You will enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of Great Slave Lake, the city, and far beyond.

      Then again later in the evening (please check with front desk to reconfirm Aurora shuttle pickup time), meet with your tour guide again in the lobby of your hotel, where you will again be taken to the Aurora Village for day 2 of your Aurora Experience.

    3. Day 3 Yellowknife (free day)

      Day 3 is your free day in Yellowknife.

      You may decide on a various optional activities; In winter, choose from Dogsled experience, snowshoeing, ice fishing, snowmobile tour for true winter adventure. In summer/Fall, choose from Hiking, wildlife viewing or boat tours on Great Slave Lake fully colour scenery on the journey.

      Tonight you can be also choose to add an additional night of Aurora viewing, it will still be amazing as Aurora shown are never the same as it dances across the sky! Or you can relax, and explore one of the many local restaurant to enjoy a northern feast.

    4. Day 4 Yellowknife - Hometown

      Today, the guide will meet up with you in the lobby of your hotel at the scheduled time for each flight.   Drive you to Yellowknife airport, your unforgettable aurora viewing tour concludes.

    Fall season (Mid August ~ Mid October) 

    Wildlife Viewing Tour 4 hours (PM)

    The wild landscape of the Northwest Territories is home to stunning views, lakes, rivers and amazing Wildlife. It is one of the last remaining places you will see Woodland Bison or ‘Buffalo’ roaming free in the wild. Also, you can spot various wildlife such as foxes, black bear, wolverines, bald eagles, sand cranes, and other rare animals that may show up along the way…

     

    Cameron Falls Hiking Tour 4 hours (PM)

    Cameron Falls is a destination for both locals and visitors alike. Located in Hidden Lake Territorial Park, the hike is a moderately easy 30-minute walk to the spectacular view of Cameron Falls. The trail leads through the boreal forest and along the rocky terrain, across streams and in and out of small valleys. Our guides will take you along the hiking trail and over the rocky landscape until you reach Cameron Falls. The trailhead is located approximately 45 km up the Ingraham Trail. You will see other local lakes and potentially wildlife along the drive.

     

    Winter season (Mid November ~ Mid April)

    You can meet the dogs and enjoy learning about one of the most important modes of transport in the north.                These dogs are essential to life in arctic conditions and were relied on for centuries to stay alive.                                          You will understand the community love and respect for animals in the Northwest Territories.

     

     

    Snowshoe Experience 4 hours trip, tour duration:60 minutes (PM)

    Take a guided walk on the back trails of Aurora Village on traditional snowshoes. Learn about the flora and fauna that people of this land have used for centuries. Our cultural snowshoe experience takes you on a journey into the woods at Aurora Village, you’ll learn about the local tradi-tions of the land and the wildlife and flora of the area. Keep your eyes open, and you’ll likely see paws or hoof prints in the snow. You’ll also be shown important survival skills about fire, how to find shelter, and life in the extreme cold. The guided walk itself is approximately 75 minutes and suitable to all fitness levels.

     

    Nature viewing experience by Snowmobile 1 hour  (AM/PM)

    Have you ever wanted to feel the thrill of freedom as you embrace one of Northerners’ favourite seasons?                      Glide over a frozen lake and through forested trails? Carve your way through our backcountry wilderness, travelling on thickly forested trails. Stop along the way and take photos of the breathtaking scenery, and play on our pristine frozen lakes as you get to know the “wild” side of frontier country.

     

     

    Ice Fishing Demonstration; tour duration:2.5 hours (PM)

    Take you down to a nearby lake – one of the best in the area for Ice Fishing. In a heated van, we explore the ice fishing holes and your guide will demonstrate how we ice fish and how we catch fish in the north. After pulling in the lines, hopefully, you are successful in catching something worthy of a photo opportunity. We then take your catch back to the village and into a Teepee where the guide will show you how to prepare fish and you can learn the real art to fishing – filleting. We then cook the fish over the open fire and with some local bannock and a little soup you enjoy a light and fresh northern meal.
