BC Chilcotins 2 Day Backcountry Hiking Adventure

Step deeper into the wild of British Columbia on this Multi-Day Guided Hiking Tours.

Fly-in or Drive-in to the Tyax Lodge, this will be te base for your adventure. Enjoy the seren sceneries, and feel your body being rejuvinated by nautre as you prepare for the hiking adventure ahead.

After a good night’s sleep, you will begin your adventure by hiking into the park, or opt to fly into a remote alpine lake. Your guide will uncover the magic of the South Chilcotins as you hike past glacier-fed lakes, through grasslands and alpine meadows, and on longer hikes, over remote mountain passes, sub-alpine meadows, creek crossings and alpine lakes. Travel relatively lightly on this unique “hut to hut” guided hiking experience, as you stay in our comfortable, well-equipped and hosted backcountry camps – you’ll only need to carry your personal belongings with you!

Expect to hike for 4-7 hours per day as you travel from cabin to cabin throughout the incredible region. Keep an eye out for wildlife and learn about local flora, the region’s history and Tyax Adventures.

Wilderness Within Reach

Located north of Whistler, in the heart of the Southern Chilcotin Range near Gold Bridge, BC. Guest can choose to enjoy the sceneries along the way by driving to Tyax Lodge from Vancouver, or choose to fly-in on charter planes and enjoy the sceneries from a different prespective.


Tour includes:

  • Your choice of a scenic floatplane flight to an Alpine lake to start your tour (floatplane departure from our Tyax Adventures base, on Tyaughton Lake) OR hike into the Chilcotin Park from the Tyax Adventures base with your guide.

  • An experienced hiking guide to guide you through the backcountry trails on your wilderness hiking experience.

  • A delicious packed lunch from 1st day to last day. Includes Sandwich, piece of fruit and slice/muesli bar and/or baked energy snack (let us know if you have any allergies/dietary requirements as we’re happy to cater for these).Feel free to being any extra trail side snacks if there is anything in particular you like to carry on your hikes.

  • A healthy, hearty and delicious dinner on nights in Camp, followed by Breakfast in the mornings that you wake up in Camp. These are freshly prepared by our backcountry camp hosts (let us know if you have any allergies,/dietary requirements as we’re happy to cater for these).

  • In camp, all nights accommodations are double occupancy accommodation in our backcountry camps (see below for details on our backcountry camps)

  • Unbeatable mountain vistas and stories for a lifetime.

What’s included when staying at the Backcountry camps:

  • A camp host to set up and maintain camp.

  • A cozy bed in a dual occupancy canvas walled tent (2 people per tent typically)

  • Three meals a day when in the mountains. Includes a hot breakfast and dinner prepared by the host, and self prepared and packed lunches for on the trails. A packed lunch prepared by Tyax Adventures is also included on your first day.

  • Filtered water to fill your hydration packs and bottles.

  • Sleeping bags, sleeping pad/mattresses, and pillows.

  • Fleece jackets to help keep you warm in the evenings.

  • Camp shoes to wear while in and around camp.

  • Outdoor hot showers with soap.

  • An outdoor pit toilet that is basic in nature but fully stocked

  • The opportunity to dry out wet clothes and/or shoes, with a wood fired stove (this means you can travel even lighter!)

What’s Your Fitness Level?

Level 1:

You exercise weekly and are reasonably fit.
You could hike at a comfortable pace for 3 – 4 hours including hiking through some hilly terrain.

Level 2:

You exercise 2 or 3 times a week with a focus on fitness.
You could hike up to 6 hours a day at a moderate pace, including 1.5/3 hours of hilly and at times steep mountainous terrain ( for multiple days )

Level 3:

You exercise 3 or 4 times a week and are very fit.
You could hike up 8-10 hours a day at a good pace, including 2+ hours of hilly and at times steep mountainous terrain at a time (for multiple days).

  1. Day 1 Arrival at Tyax

    Arrive at the Tyrax Lodge via your choice of transportation (fly-in, or drive-in). This is the base for your advenutre ahead.

    Overnight Hotel in Tyax Lodge.

  2. Day2 Warner Lake to Spruce Camp

    From our base, you will begin your day with a scenic roughly 20-minute flight into beautiful Warner Lake located at 1,850 m. From Warner Lake your group will hike approximately 18 kms of rolling, and at times gradually uphill, trails to our Spruce Camp.

    You can expect to hike along rocky sections of trail that have some mild exposure and spectacular valley views, past the glacier fed Trigger and Hummingbird lakes, through grasslands and alpine meadows that are dotted with beautiful aspen groves and wildflowers (if in bloom), and along the shores of Spruce Lake. There are short to moderate uphill sections of trail over the day.

    At the end of your first day you will arrive at our Spruce Camp. Here you can relax, fuel-up and enjoy some lake activities. Or do some additional small hikes close by if you desire.

    Stats: ~18km, +117m / -404m

  3. Day 3 Spruce Camp to the Valley (Gun Creek Road)

    From Spruce Lake your group will hike roughly 25 kms of rolling trail that gradually loses elevation back to the valley (but do expect some small uphill’s).

    Shortly after departing camp, you will arrive at an area of spectacular open sub alpine meadows filled with wildflowers (when in bloom) and aspen groves, which provide stunning views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the vast valley ahead of you. There are ample photo opportunity spots along this section of trail and take a moment here to really appreciate the true wilderness experience you are immersed in.

    After descending gradually through the meadows, you will hike along the banks of Gun Creek for extended portions of time. Marvel at the power of the creek and enjoy the sounds of the running water. Notice a change in the terrain to a real mixture of volcanic ash and sand as you lose elevation and hike through the valley forest back to Gun Creek Road. Where our shuttle van will be waiting to transport you back to our base.

  4. Day 4 Depart Tyax Lodge

    Your Trip ends upon checking out from the Tyax Lodge.

    Alternatively, choose to extend your stay and enjoy the many complmentry services at the Tyax Lodge. (recommended)
